Bungie has announced it’s holding a showcase next month to talk about the future of Destiny 2.
The announcement itself was light on details, but it included a trailer showcasing several moments from Destiny 2’s Light and Darkness saga, which began with the original Destiny game and will last until the Final Shape expansion set to launch in 2024. Much of this is footage long-time fans have already seen, but it does hint toward the future with an August 23 date, where Bungie will be talking about what’s next for the shooter in the coming months. Notably, the announcement doesn’t list any times, so it’s unclear if this is a stream, or if it will just be a YouTube video that gets dropped on appropriate channels at an unknown time.
Witness what’s next.

In the meantime, it’s not like Destiny fans are lacking in content to play through, at the moment. The game’s Season of the Haunted is ongoing, and will last up until August 23, the same day Bungie is set to talk about Destiny 2’s future. This will be followed by another expansion titled Lightfall, which is set to launch sometime in 2023. So it’s probable Bungie is going to be talking about that in some capacity next month.
The announcement does specify this will be talking about Destiny 2, which leaves one to wonder if there will be anything about the competitive-focused game the studio has had open positions up for. The job description specified it would be for a new game that expanded the lore of the Destiny universe, so it seems that Bungie is looking to create more games in the series not tied to Destiny 2’s loop and story. So who knows? We could hear more about that soon, but let’s keep expectations in check ahead of the August presentation.
